WHO SHOULD APPLY
- Dharma Dreams Vocational Center offers adapted technical training for young adults, typically ages 18 to 26, who are no longer receiving services under an IEP (Individualized Education Program) and are ready for the next step in vocational and life skills development. Our program is designed for individuals who learn best through hands-on instruction and would benefit from a more supportive and individualized alternative to traditional trade schools.
We welcome students who meet the following criteria:
If your child meets the following criteria, he or she may be a candidate for Dharma Dreams Vocational Center:- Diagnosed with learning differences or special needs (e.g., language-based, cognitive, developmental, or intellectual disabilities)
- Demonstrates interest in learning a trade or technical skill
- Able to understand and follow safety protocols
- Possesses basic manual dexterity for using tools and equipment
- Responds well to a compassionate, structured, and predictable environment
- Enjoys social interactions and is interested in forming friendships with peers
- Participates in typical young adult activities (e.g., biking, music, social events, light sports)
- Has developed basic daily living skills and personal hygiene routines
- Can navigate a campus setting with minimal support, if needed
- WISC or WAIS cognitive scores generally in the 70–90+ range, or functional abilities within that level
- Willing and motivated to participate in classroom activities, hands-on training, career development, and social learning experiences

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 contains a provision that allows use of Section 529 savings to pay for private K–12 education up to $10,000 per year, per child starting in 2018. Please speak with your tax advisor about how you can use these funds or how you can establish this account now.
Medical Expenses
It is possible that there are other means for getting tax advantages for your tuition? Ask your tax advisor if the tuition and related expenses can be deducted as a medical expense.
